The Scope of Works
Container Domes Australia was contracted by Blue Water Shipping to design, manufacture, and install a custom shelter solution to support on-site container maintenance and repair operations at their Hamilton facility. The shelter was required to provide a fully enclosed workspace that could withstand day-to-day industrial use while allowing the regular movement of large shipping containers and handling equipment.
The Challenges
A key challenge was accommodating a Rough Terrain Container Handler transporting 40ft shipping containers through the front of the structure. This required a door system with significant clearances while maintaining structural integrity and ease of operation. Blue Water Shipping needed a solution that allowed unrestricted access during container movements, yet could be securely closed to create a protected workshop environment when repairs were underway.
The SOLUTION
Container Domes Australia delivered a 21m wide by 18m long dome structure mounted on double-stacked high cube containers, creating a durable and elevated maintenance shelter. Custom heavy-duty bi-fold gates were engineered and installed to the front end wall, providing the required clearance for container handlers and 40ft containers to enter and exit the shelter safely and efficiently.
When closed, the bi-fold gates fully enclose the workspace, offering protection from weather and enabling consistent maintenance operations. A personnel access door was installed in the rear end wall to allow safe and convenient staff entry without the need to open the main access gates.
The completed solution provides Blue Water Shipping with a practical, weather-protected container maintenance facility that supports efficient operations, improved safety, and reliable access for heavy equipment.
