The Scope of Works
The client is a leading Australian recycling and waste management operator with advanced resource recovery facilities across multiple states. As part of an ongoing upgrade program, the client required a compliant solution to cover timber storage yards and material handling areas at a large-scale recycling facility in Western Sydney.
Container Domes Australia was engaged to design, supply and install multiple fabric-covered dome shelters to protect stored materials, minimise environmental impact and maintain uninterrupted operational access. The project was delivered in stages to align with operational requirements and EPA compliance directives, within a live industrial environment.
The scope included engineering support, customised mounting solutions and full on-site installation.
The Challenges
The project was driven by the need to comply with Environment Protection Authority (EPA) requirements relating to material containment and dust management.
Key challenges included:
- Covering large storage and handling areas while maintaining vehicle access
- Suppressing dust during loading and unloading operations
- Accommodating varying site conditions requiring post-mounted and block-mounted structures
- Integrating shelters into an active facility without disrupting day-to-day operations
Post-mounted dome shelters were required in certain locations where container-mounted or wall-mounted solutions were not feasible due to traffic flow, ground conditions and equipment access constraints.
The SOLUTION
Container Domes Australia delivered a tailored shelter solution across multiple stages:
- Two (2) shelters measuring 21m wide x 12m long, installed side-by-side on concrete blocks
- Three (3) shelters measuring 21m wide x 12m long, installed side-by-side as part of a staged expansion
- One (1) custom cantilevered awning measuring 21m wide with a 7m cantilever and 9m front clearance
- One (1) post-mounted shelter measuring 9m wide x 24m long x 4.5m high
The custom cantilevered awning was installed over a high-traffic loading and unloading area and fitted with heavy-duty rubber conveyor material around all four sides. This solution significantly reduced airborne dust during material transfer operations, enabling compliance with EPA requirements while maintaining efficient truck movements.
Container Domes Australia’s standard base rail system allowed each structure to be mounted on blocks, posts or walls as required, providing flexibility and seamless integration across varying site conditions.
