The Scope of Works
Container Domes Australia were engaged by Re.Group after a fire destroyed their factory. The proposal was to supply temporary shelters that would act as their recycling waste factory while the new facility was being designed and constructed over the coming years.
The Re.Group is a leading Canberra-based waste management and recycling company, delivering sustainable resource recovery solutions across the ACT and surrounding regions. Known for their innovation and environmental commitment, they operate advanced recycling facilities and serve a wide range of commercial and industrial clients.
The Challenges
- Site Safety Compliance: To meet site compliance standards, the cover fabric needed to be upgraded to a flame-retardant (FR) rated material. Container Domes Australia (CDA) partners with a trusted Australian supplier that manufactures high-quality, durable covers tailored to specific project requirements. For this particular project, CDA selected Canvacon 9000E Fire Retardant — a robust, compliant material that met all safety and regulatory standards while delivering the longevity and performance required for the site.
- Lighting for night operations: Additionally, because the site operates primarily during nighttime hours, adequate lighting was essential for both safety and operational efficiency. CDA responded by delivering a tailored lighting design plan, followed by the supply and installation of LED High Bay lights in each dome.
- High-Throughput Shelter Design: The site’s operational demands presented further complexity. With a high volume of product moving in and out daily, the client required a shelter solution that could accommodate significant throughput while maintaining structural resilience.

The Solution
To meet these challenges, CDA proposed and implemented a solution built around three 35m wide x 24m long Container Domes, each fitted with a full end wall on one side to optimize security and protection from the elements. The layout was designed to manage the high logistics flow efficiently while offering a temporary solution whilst the new Re.Group Recycling Facility is being constructed.
Given the considerable apex height required and the structural load considerations, CDA employed a trussed framework in the design. This approach ensured optimal load distribution and long-term structural integrity, even under demanding conditions. The integrated lighting system further enhanced operational safety and productivity during night-time shifts.
The installation was executed by our skilled in-house team, ensuring consistent quality control, efficient delivery, and seamless integration with the site’s operations. Following installation, our Director, Paul Whitla attended the site to personally ensure the final result met all design specifications and aligned with the client’s expectations. The client was highly satisfied with the outcome, particularly noting the quality of the build, the professionalism of the installation team, and how smoothly the entire process was managed from start to finish.
