Installation & Requirements

Do we need to anchor the container domes or shipping containers we buy from you?

Yes – in most cases, proper anchoring is essential when installing a container dome shelter. Correct anchoring helps ensure the stability, safety, and long-term performance of the structure, particularly in high winds or challenging weather conditions.

All of our standard domes include anchoring options, and if your site requires something more specific, our design team can provide a custom-engineered solution tailored to your location and application.

If you’re unsure about the anchoring requirements for your setup, our team is happy to guide you through the process and recommend the most suitable solution for your needs.

I have purchased a dome elsewhere. Can you install it for me?

No, unfortunately, we can’t do that. Our qualified install team are expert at installing CDA domes only. Because each company has their own design, we can’t work with products from other suppliers that may have very different design setups. Remember, though, that our shelters are manufactured with simple installation in mind, so if you buy a Container Domes product, you can consider DIYing the setup if you’d like!

How difficult are the domes to install?

The ease of installing a container dome depends on a few factors, like the size of the dome, any site preparation needed, and the accessories you’ve chosen. That said, our domes are designed for quick and straightforward installation, thanks to the included base rail system.

When you purchase a dome, we’ll provide you with detailed instructions and drawings to guide you through the assembly process. And if you run into any challenges along the way, our technical support team is just a call away and ready to help.

What equipment is required to install a Container Dome?

To install a Container Dome Australia (CDA) product, you’ll need a few essential tools and some equipment to make the process smooth and efficient. Basic hand tools will be necessary to handle the smaller tasks, and you’ll also need access to an Elevated Work Platform (EWP) and a crane to manage the larger components and safely secure the dome in place.

Do Container Domes and ContainerSheds™ require council approval?

In most cases, a container dome is considered a relocatable or temporary structure, which means it typically doesn’t require council approval. However, every council has its own rules and regulations, so it’s always a good idea to check in with them to make sure you’re on the right track and can pick the right size that suits best.

We recommend giving your local council a quick call or visiting their website to learn about any specific requirements they might have. This way, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing you’ve covered all the bases before setting up your dome shelter.

Technical Specifications

How do I know which dome shelter best suits my particular location?

When you contact our team for more information or a quote, we’ll ask for your suburb or the location you’re buying a dome for so we can provide you with the latest and most accurate details and quote. In Australia, we have four different wind regions based on the varying windstorm types typical to each zone.

Our dome shelters all have applicable Wind Region Ratings, which means they’re engineered to withstand the wind loads as set out under the Australian Standards, AS/NZS 1170:2:2021. You can learn more about wind regions and why they matter via our detailed guide to Australian wind ratings.

Product Features & Options

I have an existing dome but now I want to put an end wall on it. Can you supply what I need for that?

Absolutely! We’re happy to supply retrofit end walls for any CDA-branded dome. However, we’re unable to provide parts for non-CDA domes, as we can’t engineer components for shelters made by other companies. If you have a CDA dome, though, just let us know, and we’ll help you get the right end walls to complete your setup!

Can I put two domes together end to end to create an extra long shelter?

I’ve seen your standard sizes guide, but I need a different width/height/length. Can you provide a quote on a product option that will suit me?

What’s the largest span you offer with your container domes?

What’s the difference between a Twistlock Mount and Weld-On Mount option?

The main difference between the Twistlock Mount and Weld-On Mount options comes down to ease of installation and whether hot works are allowed.

Our Twistlock bracket system is an alternative mounting solution that’s designed to lock the base rail securely into the corner castings of the shipping container. This makes installation faster and easier, as there’s no need for welding or other hot works. It’s a great option if you want to avoid modifying or damaging your containers. Twistlocks are an optional extra and come at an additional cost, but the time and effort saved during installation usually make up for it.

On the other hand, the Weld-On Mount option involves welding the base rails directly to the containers. This option comes standard with all shelters and works well for applications where hot works are permitted. Both systems are reliable, so just choose the one that best suits your project needs!

Can you supply shipping containers as well as domes?

No, we’re sorry but our covers are specially designed to fit our own products. For covers to suit domes from other manufacturers, our recommendation is to go back to your original provider to request replacement parts.
