The Scope of Works
Container Domes Australia was engaged by SEE Civil to deliver a custom-engineered workshop structure for Petersons Quarry, a long-standing basalt quarry in Coraki, NSW. Operational since 1916, the quarry required a robust, weather-resistant shelter to facilitate heavy machinery maintenance and servicing on site.
The Challenges
Standard off-the-shelf dome solutions were not suitable for the quarry site due to the following limitations:
- Insufficient Height Clearance: Traditional domes lack the necessary vertical clearance to safely accommodate large quarry equipment such as loaders, excavators, and service vehicles.
- Limited Customisation: Most generic solutions offer minimal flexibility in design, restricting the ability to integrate site-specific features like enhanced ventilation or extended apex height.
- Inadequate Ventilation: Quarry workshops generate significant heat and airborne particulates, especially during activities like crushing, welding, and engine maintenance. Standard domes often do not meet required air flow or WHS compliance standards.
- Anchoring Constraints: The site required engineered slab fixing anchors to ensure the dome remained secure in variable ground conditions and high-wind environments—something not typically included in basic dome kits.
The SOLUTION
Container Domes Australia custom-designed and fully installed a dome solution tailored to the site’s operational needs:
- Structure size: 18m wide x 24m long with a 7.1m apex.
- Extended clearance: With High Cube containers in use, the total internal apex height achieved was 10m — sufficient for safe operation around large plant and machinery.
- Ventilation: The full end wall was fitted with multiple ventilation points to ensure safe air circulation and thermal comfort.
- Foundation: Heavy-duty slab-fixed container anchors provided long-term stability.
- Full Installation: The project was completed with a full installation service by our in-house experienced design team.
