The Scope of Works
Container Domes Australia was engaged to design, manufacture, and install four custom ground-mounted container domes for BTP Group’s parts site in Mackay, Queensland. The new shelters were commissioned to replace aging structures that were no longer fit for purpose due to declining quality and performance.
As BTP Group is a major player in the mining industry, it was crucial that the shelter solution met the highest standards of durability, compliance, and functionality to support their day-to-day operations and withstand the demanding conditions of the Mackay region.
Each dome was tailored with end walls featuring custom openings to allow seamless access for plant and machinery, while also providing reliable protection from the elements.
The Challenges
- The domes needed to accommodate a variety of operational uses—ranging from equipment storage to a fully functional paint booth with an integrated extractor system.
- Each dome required a specific structural configuration and bracing system to meet the individual needs of the site.
- Additionally, given Mackay’s location in a cyclone-prone region, all structures had to comply with strict local wind rating and cyclone resilience standards.

Below is an overview of the 4 ground mounted shelters that were manufactured and installed:
Dome 1 – 9m wide x 26m long x 4.5m apex, Full End wall on both ends with an access opening.
Dome 2 – 9m wide x 26m long x 4.5m apex, Full End wall on both ends with an access opening.
Dome 3 – 16.5m wide x 24m long x 6.2m apex, Full end wall on both ends with access opening.
Dome 4 – 6m wide x 15m long x 4m apex, Full end wall on both ends with access opening.
Each dome was delivered and installed on schedule and within budget, with zero safety incidents recorded. The final result was robust, high-performance shelters tailored to BTP Group’s site-specific needs—delivering durability, compliance, and long-term peace of mind.
