The Scope of Works
A custom container dome structure was designed and installed at the Ballina Community Recycling Centre to serve as a dedicated loading bay.
The Challenges
- Height Clearance: A minimum apex height of 10.5 metres was essential to ensure unrestricted operation of large-scale machinery.
- Geotechnical Conditions: Poor soil quality on site necessitated concrete pier footings to meet structural safety and compliance standards.
- Regulatory Compliance: The solution needed to satisfy both structural engineering requirements and strict workplace health and safety standards mandated by the council.
The SOLUTION
The 17m wide x 33m long structure with a 10.5m apex clearance was elevated using double-stacked GP containers, secured with our Twistock Mounting Brackets to meet the required height specifications.
A post-mounted rear section was integrated to provide safe, unobstructed access for large machinery such as excavators and tippers.
To address challenging ground conditions, engineered concrete piers and a customised footing system were implemented, ensuring long-term structural stability and compliance with council requirements.
All installation works were carried out under strict Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) protocols, including:
- Comprehensive Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
- Risk assessments and daily pre-starts
- Supervision by qualified and ticketed personnel
- Full compliance with Ballina Shire Council’s operational safety standards
The completed structure now enhances operational efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance at the Ballina Community Recycling Centre—supporting a vital service where residents can responsibly dispose of household hazardous waste.
