The Scope of Works
Located in North Queensland’s Burdekin Shire (40km west of Ayr and 60km south of Townsville), Haughton Solar Farm is a large-scale solar photovoltaic power station. Haughton Solar Farm is expected to have a generating capacity of up to 500MW, enough to power approximately 291,000 homes.
RCR Tomlinson engaged Container Domes Australia to design and install a temporary, bespoke shelter connecting existing site offices and buildings at their Haughton Solar Farm in Queensland.
The Challenges
With the existing site office already in place before arrival, careful planning was required to ensure post placements did not create safety hazards or obstruct access ways and office entrances. The installation team had to work within tight site constraints, manoeuvring around existing buildings to accurately lay footings, install support posts, and erect the container dome—all while maintaining site safety and operational continuity.
The SOLUTION
Container Domes Australia’s Design and Engineering Team developed a customised layout that seamlessly integrated with the existing building configuration, ensuring the container dome received the necessary structural support while maintaining clear, unobstructed access for personnel movement between buildings. To enhance functionality and protect the structure, gutter kits were installed along the shelter’s length to efficiently capture rainwater runoff and improve waterproofing.
The project was completed within the client’s specified timeframe and budget, with a flawless safety record—zero incidents reported throughout the installation process.
