The Scope of Works
Container Domes Australia designed, fabricated, and installed a series of custom-sized Container Domes to protect a Tunnel Borer Machine (TBM) at Anglo American’s Moranbah site. The Anglo American Moranbah site is a major underground coal mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, producing hard coking coal for steelmaking. Its high-safety, complex operations demand robust, weather-resistant storage solutions for critical equipment like Tunnel Borer Machines.
Each of the four domes measures 14m wide × 42.7m long × 8.6m high at the apex when mounted on high-cube shipping containers. Whilst, Half end walls feature the client’s branding. These structures provide optimal weather protection for the TBM, while the containers themselves are used to securely store sensitive machine components.
The Challenges
The project required precise coordination: containers had to be positioned and secured before the TBM’s arrival, and all machine components had to be located in their allocated areas. The Container Domes and half end walls were then installed over the top, ensuring seamless protection and operational readiness.
The SOLUTION
Container Domes Australia delivered a custom multi-container dome setup to meet Anglo American’s strict safety and operational requirements. Our team successfully designed and installed a dedicated TBM storage facility at the Moranbah site, providing:
• Weather-resistant, high-clearance shelter for the TBM
• Integrated storage for sensitive machine parts
• Half end walls with custom branding for site identification
Throughout the project, our team coordinated effectively with other on-site contractors, maintaining cohesion and adherence to stringent safety standards.
